CRYOPEN TREATMENTS
What is Cryotherapy?
This is an effective and safe procedure that is used to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions.
It works by using liquid nitrous oxide to destroy the tissue by freezing the cell fluid, in turn forming ice shards that rupture the cell membrane, thus destroying the cell and the skin lesion

Why use CryoPen?

The CryoPen is a unique pen-like device the allows the user to perform cryotherapy in a targeted fashion, meaning no healthy tissue will be affected during your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions?

-
Can anyone have the treatment?
Yes, although skin types and colour will be
taken into consideration prior to treatment

2. Can children have CryoPen Treatments?
Yes they can with parental consent

3. Is the treatment painful?
The treatment penetrates the lesion at 1mm depth every 5 seconds. Once the bottom of the
lesion has been frozen the patient will
experience a slight pain sensation. This is mild.
There may be a slight stinging around the
lesion for a couple of minutes following the
treatment.

4. Is there a change in pigmentation after
treatment?
Both hypo- and hyper-pigmentation can occur
after cryotherapy. It can last a few months and
occasionally a bit longer. Please enquire with
the practitioner prior to treatment.

5. Are there any risks in dark-skinned patients?
Melanocytes are most sensitive to cold injury
and are therefore most easily damaged with
Cryotherapy. Dark-skinned patients hould
consider the small possibility of permanent loss
of pigment in the treatment area.

6. Does it cause scarring?
Typically causes the least amount of scarring
compared to other methods of removing these
types of lesions. A small scar may be left
following treatment.

7. How long does lesion take to heal?
Some times a blister may form and persist for 5
days. After it scabs over the lesion, healing
time depends on the depth of the lesion.
Typically healing will occur from 2-6 weeks
following treatment.

8. How many treatments are needed?
Most lesions will only require 1 treatment
session. Some deeper lesions may require more
than 1 treatment session. Once treated, the
results are usually permanent.

9. Are activities limited after treatment?
No there are no limitations on activity. There is
no issue with swimming or showering.
